[Thursday

Lately I've been waking to emptiness.
It seems everything good I had going for me has ended.
Anyone I loved or cared about has pushed me away or just let go.
Everyday is filled with nothing.
My mother turned my phone service off.
My boyfriend barely speaks with me, I feel like he hates me.
Im so Stressed out!
I need someone to calm me down and rub my back and just tell me that they "love me" and "that everything will be alright"...*sigh*

This was about a quote we picked:
"The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." Borysenko, Joan I believe that the quotation above is something that a lot of people should consider.People should not worry about how they will die or when, they should focus on fulfilling their goals and their lifestyle. Focusing on this will help them strive to become a better person or to complete goals they have and achievements they'd like to obtain. It would make a person realize their potential and where exactly they are headed in their life not their death.

This was about goals we have in our live and how to get there, I bullshitted this whole essay and got a 100:
I’m at a point in my life where I must begin making decisions. Whether it is fulfilling my responsibilities or determining what time to go to bed, I am old, and wise enough, to make my own decisions. At the moment, I possess very few skills to deal with adulthood and only one responsibility, which is school. The decisions I make in school will determine how I go about fulfilling my adult responsibilities utilizing the skills that I learned in High School. However, High School does not give me sufficient skills for the life I’d like to lead.

At the moment, If I posses a 3.94 GPA with a 4.24 weighted. This is more than the minimal requirements to be admitted into the University of Florida. I intend to maintain or improve this GPA in the upcoming years. I have a great interest in the mathematical and scientific fields; I have yet to decide whether to do Medicine, Astrophysics, or both. However, I have more than sufficient time to decide which career I will undergo.

Taking a small leap into the future, three years from now I plan to be graduated from High School in the top 10 percentile of my class and searching for a college if I haven't been accepted into a Florida university yet. I intend to attend a Florida State college in order to receive a scholarship to pay for my tuition because my family doesn't have the funds to pay for my enrollment. Should High School go according the plan, I will be working as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN, at a local hospital making far more money than most high school graduates, which will help me pay for boarding, books, and everyday necessities. I plan to major in specialized nursing in order to have a profession that can provide me with more than enough stability to live my life. However, this is only the first step in my ultimate goal.

It is very difficult to look so far into the future because life surprises us numerous times throughout our lives, however, 10 years from now, if my life and goals remain as they are, I should be nearing the end of my Medical school and entering residence. In order to reach that point, however, I must complete high school and try to get as many college credits as possible during that time in order to facilitate my life in college. I am required to take two semesters of organic chemistry accompanied by inorganic chemistry, two semesters of biology, two semesters of anatomy, and two semesters of physics. In addition, I must receive a bachelors degree in a major of my choice, as this will significantly improve my chances of being accepted into a medical school. The career I intend to major in will be Astrophysics. After being accepted into a medical school, I must take two years of theory and a final two years of clinical study followed by three to five years of residence depending on whether I become a general doctor, three years, or a specialized doctor, five years. This is where I see myself in the future and I know that I have to maintain my grades or if they change only for the better. I will need obtain skills to reach my goals and turn
them into accomplishments.

This assignment was about a Novel I had to read:
The Hot Zone
Richard Preston
Page 1-26
1. Charles Monet was a 56 year old Frenchman who lived in a bungalow alone by the Nzoia River in Western Kenya.Monet was an amateur naturalist he was always feeding animals and caring for them.Monet and his friend visited Mount Elgon national park, Monet decided to enter Kitum cave. Kitum cave was filled with bats. After visiting the cave numerous days later he developed a headache and began to look grotesque and feel very ill. Doctors could not diagnose this strange illness, no one had seen anything like this. After staying in a hospital for some time Monet started to Vomit blood or also known as Black Vomit. Monet accidently vomited into Dr. Shem Musoke's eyes and mouth. Days after this incident Dr. Musoke started to have the same symptoms as monet. The sickness puzzled him and so he decided to have serum drawn from the blood of Monet and himself and sent it to CDC and other Virology Institutes. As both men's conditions worsened the results finally came in. Monet and Dr. Musoke both had the Marburg Virus. A virus of the Filovirus family.Marburg was the first Filovirus discovered. Filovirus is Latin for thread virus Marburg kills a quarter of of the patients who contract it.

2.I feel that is very shocking for someone to catch such a horrid virus as Marburg a relative of Ebola, but what is even more shocking is the fact that no one could properly diagnose it or recognize the Virus. Even with all the Technology available in 1979 this Virus was nearly unknown, at this time we were just figuring out what HIV was. And to imagine if we only recently discovered HIV, Marburg, Ebola, AIDS etc, what else is out there yet to be discovered, and how dangerous is it?

This was about the Novel:
The biggest conflict presented in the novel thus far seems to be The Virus Ebola. In the beginning of the novel you meet Charles Monet and Dr. Musoke who both contract and die from the Marburg Virus which is closely related to Ebola. Then you meet Nancy Jaxx a mother, student, and soldier. Nancy worked at Fort Derrick is the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, commonly know as USAMRIID. There she was working on Project Ebola. Ebola is a virus that is part of the Filoviridae family, Ebola is usually referred to as hemorrhagic fever. The Virus has caused a number of outbreaks since its discovery. Ebola causes its victims to become very ill with fever and other aliments that are sometimes mistaken for a bacterial infection. Ebola may progress to interior bleeding which is caused by a chemical reaction between the virus and platelets and creates a chemical that creates cell sized holes into capillary walls. In some cases a person my bleed out of their orifices.Less than 50% of patients will develop any hemorrhaging.
The time between symptoms to death is about between 7 and 14 days.
The victims of Ebola by the second week tend to die of multiple organ failure.
This conflict is so strong because there is no known vaccine that is proven successful or any treatment that can slow the process of the Virus. This conflict can be resolved by doing more research on the virus and testing with it, which will hopefully produce a vaccine or cure for this Virus. If a Vaccine is produced then Scientists can start to eradicate Ebola.

Thats all I feel like sharing.

AP home work soo faarrr [Monday

Six major perspectives:

Psychoanalytical-A form of therapy aimed at making patients aware of their unconscious motives so that they can gain control over the behavior. Psychoanalysis was the only formalized psycho therapy practiced in western society for a long time.

Sigmund Freud came up with the theory of psychoanalysis.

Humanist-The goal of humanistic therapy is to help people fulfill their human potential. Carl Rogers came up with the humanistic therapy or commonly known as client centered therapy. They view illness as a self directed choice.

Cognitive-The goal of cognitive therapy focuses on changing the way people think. It uses thoughts to control emotions and behaviors. So to improve our lives, we must work to change our patterns of thinking.

Behavioral-In behavioral therapy there is emphasis on ones behavior rather then thoughts as in cognitive therapy. It concentrates on what is specifically troubling in the patient’s life and takes steps to change it. The idea is that a person who learned “bad” behavior can unlearn it.

Neurobiological- Biological therapy uses medication, surgery, and shock treatment to treat what they believe to be an underlying physiological reason for the disturbed behavior.

Socio cultural- The study of how our thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and behaviors, are influenced by our interactions with others.

Roots of Psychology:

John Locke-(1632-1704)

Locke defined the self as “that conscious thinking thing, (whatever substance, made up of whether spiritual, or material, simple, or compounded, it matters not) which is sensible, or conscious of pleasure and pain, capable of happiness or misery, and so is concerned for itself, as far as that consciousness extends,”  He rejected the idea of inborn ideas.

Rene Descartes- (1596-1650)

A French philosopher believed there was a link between the mind and body. He reasoned, that the mind controlled the body’s movements, sensations, and perceptions.

Charles Darwin- Charles Darwin argued that all people express certain basic feelings in the same ways.

Wilhelm Wundt- He established the first psychological experimental laboratory. Wundt used the idea of introspection. Broke down certain behaviors and measured them.

William James- James was the first American Psychologist. He is associated with functionalism. He wrote the first text book of psychology.

Ivan Pavlov- The Russian physiologist charted another new course for psychoanalytical investigation.

B.F. Skinner- (1904-1990) Skinner Introduced the concept of reinforcement. Skinner attempted to show how his laboratory techniques might be applied to society as a whole.
